Malta's mains water is hard enough to scale a kettle in a month and a geyser in a decade. Three things deal with it, and they do different jobs: a reverse osmosis unit under the sink makes drinking water; a whole-house pre-filter takes out sediment and some chlorine; a softener protects the geyser, the mixers and the washing machine from scale. None of them replaces the others.
A Maltese supplier publishes the kit prices, which is what the calculator carries. Installation is included in the RO package; for the softener and the pre-filter it is quoted on site because it depends on where the mains enters.
Kit prices as published by a Maltese supplier in September 2026: a domestic RO package from €455 installed, whole-house pre-filters €260 to €385, softeners €900 to €1,060. Cartridges and membranes run from a few euros to €125.
